I came here 15 years
ago. I have got 4 children. I came from Malaysia. My children are 19,
18, 14 and 13. My husband died 5 years ago of liver cancer. And I was
very depressed and angry, because at that time my son who is 14 years
old, he blame it on me as if it were I who killed the father. But it is
not. It is because he had liver cancer.
The doctor couldn't help him. It was a shock. When the doctor found out
it was all too quick, within a month my husband died.
So at the time when the doctor found out it was too late. He lived only
one month. And with four children it was very hard for me. I don't have
friends, relatives. I do have friends but they live very far away. At
that time I lived in High Wickham and I didn't have Chinese friends at
all.
I mean I can speak English very well but at that time, to look after 4
children, I don't go out, unless I go out with my husband. So it is very
difficult for me that time when he passed away.

My youngest boy was
only eight years old, and we had gone through a lot of depression. Also
after my husband died, I had a very bad car accident. Actually I have
a very positive mind, I wanted to come out to work, so I went to TAFE
to study. I studied for three months, I had a car accident, a very bad
one and I had no one to help me.
But I was very strong and brave. My car was totally terrible. I was hit
by 2 cars, and I still got out of the car because I had to pick up my
children from the school. So, think about that! I feel that at that time
I was very, very strong.
Even though I was crying, I blamed it all on God. God, why everything
happen to me? But I thought, oh whatever happened there must be a reason.
There must be a reason. I've gone through a lot, to live in High Wickham
-- it's a long way from Perth. I mean it is further away than where I
live now. Now I live in Bull Creek.

I have known Anne [Tong] quite a long time. Anne is my good friend. She
is always very supportive. She came to see me all the time. And she says,
"Angie, don't stay at home all the time!" You know? Come and
mix with us. We go to meetings and we go here and there." So I was
always with Anne all the time, that's how I came to go to EDAC.
